Carin Alegre Castegren lives and works in Malmö, Sweden. She works with painting and has a poetic approach to the medium. Her practice stems from an inner space where intuition is used as a navigating tool.
She employs a technique of painting with fluid layers which allows for an ongoing revision of the work. Through the repetitive act of erasing, structure is formed on the surface of the canvas, resembling that of a topographical landscape. The transparency that results from thin layering allows the painting to be read as a palimpsest. The motifs in her work frequently reflect mechanisms of becoming, as well as intrinsically existential states — such as the volatility of time and perception.
Castegren received her BFA (2022) and MFA (2024) degree from Malmö Art Academy.
She is currently exhibiting her work in a solo show at Galleri Ping-Pong, in Malmö. Other recent solo shows include ”Tremeluz” at KHM1 Gallery, in Malmö (2024) and a residency exhibition ”Innan blicken klarnar” at Galleri Passagen, in Årjäng (2024).
Her work has been shown at Galleri Arnstedt (2025), Södertälje Konsthall (2025), Skissernas Museum (2024), Pumphuset Konsthall (2024), and Ronneby Konsthall (2023). In 2026 she will participate in a duo show curated by Gertrud Sandqvist and Elisabeth Östin, at Pumphuset Konsthall in Landskrona.
During her time at AiR351 / CAC, Carin Alegre Castegren plans to develop a new body of work which explore elasticity and ambiguity. She will also reflect on how tactile and material qualities, together with drawing, manifest within her painting practice, and potentially to explore them it as independent medium.
