Elena Savvidou – born in 1989 in Limassol, Cyprus – is a performance artist working with sound and a musician working through performance. Over the past few years, she has been improvising in diverse spaces, using a variety of materials to create feeling-specific performances that offer self-contained sonic experiences. Her work is deeply influenced by the environments in which she performs.
She is particularly interested in how movement and sound act as transitions between moments, shaping new, temporary environments.
Savvidou’s work has been presented in numerous institutions including: The Island Club as part of the Art Explora, (Cyprus, 2026), Thkio Ppalies (Cyprus, 2024), Sessions at State Gallery of Contemporary Art, Spel (Cyprus, 2024), Sessions at DriveDrive (Cyprus, 2023), gfzk Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst (Leipzig 2022).
Listening can take many forms, shaped by the situations and environments we inhabit. Sound can become an intuitive map – a powerful means of understanding public space, social relations, and everyday life. By entering a space through listening, the body is guided in new ways, allowing us to navigate and experience our surroundings through an additional sensory layer.
During this residency, she intend to engage in active listening as a core practice. Through soundwalks as a daily routine, she aim to explore how an often intangible and esoteric experience like listening can become embodied. This process will inform the translation of sonic experiences into visual forms, resulting in outputs that reflect the relationship between sound movement, and perception.
