Adriana Arroyo (1981, Costa Rica, lives in Berlin) is the CAC / AiR 351, 2024 grant recipient, following an international open call launched in March.

AiR 351 wishes to thank all 155 applicants for their interest in this call and also to the selection committee members for their precious collaboration.

In her work Adriana Arroyo investigates landscape, to reveal possible relationships between geological activity, instability, politics and the fragility of body and mind. She employs a multilayered approach including collaboration, workshops, reactivation of archival images, fieldwork, film and installation art.

Growing up in Costa Rica, Adriana Arroyo was exposed from childhood to a sense of constant change through earthquakes and volcanic activity. Additionally, the politics of Latin America, particularly in the second half of the 20th century, marked how she learnt to view the workings of the world, through the prism of unstable conditions.

Her work has been shown as part of group exhibitions at Kunstraum Niederösterreich, Vienna, Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden, Kunstverein in Hamburg, NICC Antwerp, MADC, San Jose, Costa Rica, Bergman Centre, Farö island. She has had solo exhibitions at Galerie KM, Berlin, Despacio and Teor/éTica, San Jose, Costa Rica, amongst others. Her film work has been screened at international festivals including Berlinale, Toronto International Film Festival, Oberhausen Short Film Festival and Media City in Ontario.

Adriana’s 3 months residency is fully sponsored by Torres Vedras Municipality.
