Aleksey Dubinsky (1985, Grozny, Chechnya, Russia), lives and works in Tbilisi, Georgia.
Aleksey Dubinsky studied at the Nizhny Novgorod Art College (2001-2005), in the Department of Design of the architectural environment. He graduated from the faculty of painting at the Russian Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture Ilya Glazunov (2011). Recently, Dubinsky had solo shows at Window Project Gallery, Tbilisi and at The Moscow Museum of Modern (MMOMA).
Dealing with the ordinary reality and the frailty of everyday life, Dubinsky´s work opens room for the extraordinary and magical. Stemming from complex political contexts and from the direct implications of war, his approach can be perceived as an “everyday surrealism” or “magical realism”: “Technically, my work is based on the research and collection of material; it can be sketches, photos, recordings, fragments of phrases and melodies, which I carefully process and combine these fragments of reality into a new plot, which can later manifest itself in the form of a painting, sculpture or research work.”
Dubinsky´s works are available at Window Project Gallery (Tbilisi), Gridchinhall Gallery (Moscow region) and SAMPLE Art Gallery.
