Over the summer of 2021, Veit Stratmann was in residency at AiR 351. During that period, the artist strolled around Cascais and Parede and developed this photographic project.
In Todos os arcos que vi em Cascais e Parede / All the arches I saw in Cascais and Parede, the sidewalk arches preventing access or parking are the protagonists of an inventory of 125 images. Here, those structures which are designed to be an obstacle are removed from their broader context and placed next to each other, forming an incomplete grid.
An edition dedicated to this project was recently printed by cdla – Le Centre des livres d’artistes, France and can be found here.
Veit Stratmann (1960) lives and works in Paris (France). He teaches at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts de Lyon (France). His work was shown at the Museum Folkwang (Essen, Germany), the Serralves Foundation (Porto, Portugal), the Miró Foundation (Barcelona, Spain), the Kunstmuseum Basel (Switzerland), the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris (France), the Project Art Centre (Dublin, Ireland), the Taedok Science Town (Taejon, South Korea) and other venues worldwide. His show entitled “Lumiar Cité” was held at Lumiar Cité from 13.11.2021 to 30.01.2022, curated by Jürgen Bock. This was Stratmann’s first exhibition in Lisbon since his show at the Serralves Museum in Porto in 2007 and it involved a “radical intervention” in that exhibition space.
