EM LIBERDADE is a program dedicated to the development of contemporary art which is carried out in partnership with other organizations with different profiles and locations: MIRA (Porto), Colégio das Artes (Coimbra), and Lugar do Desenho – Fundação Júlio Resende (Gondomar).

It encompasses support for the production and presentation of new works, the exhibition of existing ones, artist residencies, community-based projects, and public engagement activities aimed at raising awareness among new audiences.

AiR 351’s participation in the “Em Liberdade” program focuses on the work of Alfonso Borragán, and includes the involvement of artists Martin Howse, Malena Rodriguez, and curator Ainhoa Gonzalez.

Borragán is an artist who, over the past ten years, has developed a project exploring the ingestion of stones (“Lithophages”). This ongoing project has taken on various forms—such as collective actions, installations, publications, and videos—depending on the context and location of the research and presentations. His residency will offer a critical space for the development of an art project grounded in research and cross-disciplinary knowledge. To this end, the artist brings together an international, multidisciplinary team to expand the project’s conceptual and experiential scope and to reach diverse audiences. The program includes a three-month residency and the production of a new work, resulting from field research and dialogue with interdisciplinary interlocutors.

Scheduled Public Events:

  • Alfonso Borragán, Malena Rodriguez and Ainhoa Gonzalez – AiR 351 Cascais

Also within this collaborative program, AiR 351 hosted the residencies of Tiago Madaleno and Fábio Colaço within the same framework, aiming at the integration of their work in the exhibition “On the Seventh Continent”, curated by Paulo Mendes and António Olaio, at the Colégio das Artes.

This project is supported by RPAC – Portuguese Contemporary Art Network.
