Avital Barak is an art curator and cultural scholar based in Lisbon. Since 2024 she has been a researcher fellow at CineLab/IFILNOVA, NOVA University Lisbon. Her PhD focused on the potential for resistance visible in manifestations of performative bodily movement in public space.
Her curatorial work includes research-based exhibitions, public events and the facilitation of transdisciplinary research groups dedicated to the method of “collective investigation.” This method focuses on gathering collective knowledge through group encounters, free of hierarchy and leadership. It is rooted in artistic research practices and encourages both spatial and virtual exploration.
Avital Barak is currently developing “Invasive Species?” at AiR 351, a transdisciplinary, critical, collective investigation on migrating knowledge with the participation of Lucía Andujar, Marta Angelozzi, Alexandra do Carmo, Márcio Carvalho, Ellie Ga, Lena Lewis King, Jacki Ochs, Vanja Smiljanić, Takashi Sugimoto and Giovanni Tusa and guest speakers Rui Costa Lopes, Marta Macedo and Elizabete Marchante.
