Iryna Kudria (b. 1986 in Kyiv, Ukraine) is a female artist and researcher. She graduated from the National Academy of Statistics, Accounting and Audit (Kyiv) and studied at the School of Visual Communication and the School of Involved Art of The collective Chto Delat (What is to be done?)” (Saint Petersburg). Iryna also attended the school “Dance or choreography” organized by “TanzLaboratorium”.
Iryna works with various media, predominantly video installation and video performance. In her works, Iryna reflects on the topics of physicality, identity and success, as well as addresses the issues of historical memory and modernity. Since 2020, Iryna has been researching Babyn Yar – a world’s famous location in Kyiv that has become a symbol of “Holocaust by Bullets”, where she also conducted specialized concept tours. In 2020 she was a nominee for the PinchukArtCentre Award.
“In art, I’m interested in the experiment and the opportunity to think differently. The ability of art to identify and problematize socio-political issues. I perceive art as a way of thinking and practice of the emancipation of consciousness.”
