Lea Managil’s (1991, lives and works in Lisbon) work combines different mediums. Often playing with synesthesia, sound and image, as well as smell and touch, she creates hybrid objects with a direct relation to space and its surrounding properties, offering the viewer a sensorial experience with a dreamlike quality. Aiming for a sense of familiarity and empathy, the work evoques the absurd, the artist’s childhood memories and the frustrations of adulthood, mixed with trivial behaviors we all share, embodying narratives and settings familiar to the viewer. Working mostly with installation pieces and objects, the work provides intimate moments, gestures and reveries
from everyday living.
Lea’s work has been regularly displayed in many portuguese venues and artist-run-projects such as Balcony gallery (Lisbon), Pedro Cera gallery (Lisbon), Madragoa gallery (Lisbon), Lehmann&Silva gallery (Oporto), Culturgest (Oporto), Maus Hábitos (Oporto), CAPC (Coimbra), O Armário project (Lisbon), Las Palmas project (Lisbon-Berlin), Zaratan (Lisbon), and has entered different public and private collections such as CACE, João Traça Collection and António Cachola Collection. Her work is also featured in Umbigo magazine, Contemporânea magazine, Daily Lazy platform, and 2 lives project (NMV espacio, ES).
