Lyz Parayzo (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 1994) is an artist and researcher currently based in Paris, France. Her autobiographical practice offers a critical reinterpretation of Brazilian modernist traditions through the lenses of gender, identity, and politics. Working across sculpture, performance, and installation, she creates symbolic healing objects through the manipulation of metal and other industrial materials, exploring the intersections of power, violence, desire, and care while proposing new rituals of transformation.

Parayzo holds a DNSAP (Master’s equivalent) from the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris, where she graduated with jury honours in 2022. She also completed the DIU ArTeC+ post-master’s research-creation programme at Université Paris 8. Her work has been presented in exhibitions including the 17th Lyon Biennale, the 60th Venice Biennale (Swiss Pavilion, in collaboration with Guerreiro do Divino Amor), Histórias da Diversidade LGBTQIA+(MASP, São Paulo), Tempête Magique (La Villette, Paris), and Dissident Practices (John Jay College of Criminal Justice, New York). Her works are held in major public collections, including the Musée d’art contemporain de Lyon (MAC Lyon), Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, MASP, Museu de Arte do Rio (MAR), Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Niterói, Museu Nacional de Belas Artes, Casa de Cultura da América Latina, Centro Cultural do Alumínio (CCA), and Arquipélago – Centro de Artes Contemporâneas.

During her residency at AiR 351, Lyz Parayzo will develop the project support et surface, inspired by the Supports/Surfaces movement that emerged in southern France. The research begins with an exploration of materiality, focusing on materials collected from the port areas of Lisbon and Cascais, particularly tarpaulins and maritime surfaces shaped by exposure to the elements, labour, and resilience. Through painting and installation, the project marks a shift in her practice toward material experimentation, investigating the relationships between surface, structure, and environment, while allowing the residency context itself to actively inform and shape the development of the works.
