Maria Ibarretxe del Val is a visual and performing artist working across film, sound, installation and choreography. Her practice engages with processes of transformation through cycles of life and death, exploring states of belonging and chromatic transition. She focuses on the movement of the voice as an installative and choreographic material.

Ibarretxe del Val (*1977, Bilbao) lives and works between the Basque Country and Lisbon. Since 2002, she has been a member of Sra. Polaroiska, founded with Alaitz Arenzana. The collective was an Associated Artist at Azkuna Zentroa, Bilbao, and received the Gure Artea Award for Creative Activity from the Basque Government and the INJUVE Audiovisual Award from the Spanish Ministry of Culture. Their work has been presented at Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, Museo Reina Sofía, Madrid; Centre Pompidou, Paris; Mercat de les Flors, Barcelona and STUK, Leuven, Belgium. Her recent individual research includes PACAP at Forum Dança, Lisbon; ART OMI, New York; Moving Artists, Sulaymaniyah, Kurdistan, Iraq; SeMA Nanji Residency, Seoul and Itonami Daisen Art Festival, Japan.

At AiR 351, Ibarretxe will investigate the relationship between listening, voice, and the archive through conversations around love, mystery, and alterity, using the herbarium as a research device.
